FAQs for Parents-To-Be

  • If you are expecting a newborn, please call to find out how to become a new patient. If you would like to learn more about our practice prior to your newborn’s arrival, please call our office to sign up for one of our Expectant Parents’ Nights.

  • If you are delivering your baby in a hospital or birth center, the staff there will ask whom you have chosen as your child’s pediatrician. Provide them with the name of the pediatrician you have chosen so they can forward your baby’s medical records. If you are delivering your baby at home, provide the midwife with the name of your child’s pediatrician and request that they send us a copy of the medical records prior to your first appointment. Records can be faxed to 617-745-0052.

  • On the day of discharge, it is important that you (the parent or guardian) call our office at 617-745-0050 so we can register your newborn and book their first appointment. We like to see your new baby within 1-4 days of being discharged from the hospital.

For newborns, you have thirty days to enroll your child under your commercial
health insurance policy. Please make sure your carrier knows the name of the physician at MVPediatrics who is your Primary Care Provider. For MassHealth, please make sure to choose Mass General Brigham ACO as your child’s health plan and please select this plan within 2 weeks of your child’s birth.

  • Newborns are seen 1-3 days after discharge from the hospital. Many newborns will need a weight check within 1-2 weeks after that first visit to make sure that they are back to their birth weight. Well visits (or check-ups) are then done at 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, and 24 months.

These visits assess growth and development as this is a time of tremendous changes in your child’s life. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions as well!
